Where You’ll Add Value
The Manager, Accounting is accountable to the Controller for overseeing performance of a variety of accounting functions for an assigned portfolio of properties ensuring the integrity of all financial information is recorded in strict compliance with corporate policies and procedures and existing internal controls.
How You’ll Make a Difference
1. General Accounting
Oversees and is personally involved in the day-to-day general ledger transactions, accounting activities, including analyzing records and preparing financial statements, in order to ensure the integrity of all information recorded and accurate reflection of the financial state of a given portfolio.
2. Financial Reporting
Reviews a variety of financial reports/statements including but not limited to the monthly/quarterly financial statements & exception reports, annual budget and reforecast, commodity & income tax filings, to ensure the completeness, accuracy & integrity of statements and reports, while also working with the Information Technology group to enhance current report formats or create new reports in order to better meet the needs of end user groups.
3. Cash Management
Reviews analysis of and monitors cash requirements for mortgages, development projects, capital expenditures, distributions, acquisitions, dispositions and any other capital cash requirements. Reviews and approves the monthly release of cash distributions of earnings to investors (approval of distributable amounts for release) while liaising with investors or related trustees regarding queries on information being requested.
4. Support to Annual Audit Process
Assists with the audit process through the review of working papers and financial statements in addition to fielding external audit queries to facilitate the completion of portfolio audits
5. Continuous Improvement
Reviews contribute to the development and implementation of company-wide policies and procedures within the accounting departments and at the site locations and offices, in order to improve efficiency as well as recommend any necessary changes to reflect changing business processes or external accounting practices and regulations.
6. Stakeholder Relationships
Effectively communicates and develops relationships with various internal functions and external clients, to ensure timely submission of information in accordance with the business plan and to provide responsive and high-quality service, advice and assistance to internal and external client groups, while providing support when complex accounting issues arise.
7. Budgeting and Reforecasting
Communicates annual budgeting and re-forecasting plan and year-end timelines to accounting staff, while coordinating and planning schedules to ensure a timely close and proper review/sign off of statements. Also liaises with other company department members, and accounting team members to ensure accuracy and consistency of information.
8. Management and Development of Staff
Is responsible for hiring, on-the-job training, managing and coaching of corporate accounting personnel.
Any other job-related duties and/or projects that may be assigned.
The Expertise You’ll Bring
Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g. Business, Accounting, etc.) or equivalent
CPA designation
Minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting experience with exposure to lease/revenue accounting in a real estate setting
Experience in managing a team of accounting staff, including the coordination of tasks to ensure deadlines are appropriately met
Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of MS Office applications
Working knowledge of internal controls.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience
Familiarity with YARDI package is an asset
Understanding of Realty Tax legislation within Property Management field is an asset.
